Time for a confession—email bores me.
No, that’s not it… email makes me feel sad.
As an ENTP-A, I love to daydream about the next great innovation. My passion is strategy and vision, designing new solutions to complex problems. However, when it comes to seeing things through to completion or executing on the minutia, well, I can’t.
You can already see how this would pose a big threat to an entrepreneur running their own business—a job that requires serious commitment to getting things done!
In order to excel in my role as a small business owner and combat the dark-side of my personality, I’ve had to develop new habits and make use of some well designed productivity tools. One such tool is Boomerang for Gmail.
Boomerang for Gmail
This is a game-changer. Have you ever had a burst of motivation and energy at 10 or 11 at night and sat down to work only to feel somewhat wary about hitting “Send” on that email to a client. You can’t do it. They’ll never respect office hours again and why should they? It would be so much better if you could just get up early and send it before you start your day.
Boomerang does just that. You can schedule emails to send later automatically! Now instead of sending clients midnight messages, you can schedule your email to roll into their inbox at just the right time. Sometimes I schedule messages to go out at 5:30 or 6 am—a little earlier than I plan to start my day just because it makes me feel like a boss.
More than Scheduling
“Send Later” is just one of the many amazing features you get with Boomerang. Other features include things like Inbox Pause, Email Reminders, Read Receipts for Gmail, Recurring Email, Gmail Follow-up, Follow-up Emails If No Response, Send Reminder Email, Response Tracking, and more.
Honestly, it’s amazing. One of the coolest things is a feature called Respondable. This tool analyzes the language of your email to tell you how likely it is to get a response based on a number of factors all of which are displayed and actionable. Check it out –
Best of all… it’s Free-ish
I’ve been using the free version of Boomerang for almost two years now and it’s been great. One limitation that I have felt the pain of is the cap of 10 message credits a month which can hinder your ability to really go all out on email scheduling. Regardless I have still felt the positive impact Boomerang has made on my email habits.
